Business email powered by G Suite?
 

Unless I am mistaken, Google seems to be rolling out a new service called "Business email powered by G Suite." Based on the following links it looks like you can sign up for a business email address (meaning your own domain) from within your personal Gmail account, and the two will be linked. You don't necessarily have to activate other G Suite features. This might be a great way to have your own domain email without having to migrate email, contacts, data, etc. Not sure exactly how this works yet, or even if this is something new.

It is interesting the limitations, but I can also see the advantages for someone like myself who is a sole proprietor. I could potentially set up this "Business email powered by G Suite" and essentially convert my personal Gmail account to a G Suite account, avoiding the problem of having two different accounts or having to merge email, data, contacts, etc. That assumes I am understanding this correctly. However, when I checked out my personal Gmail at this link it informs me that this option is not available to me for some reason! Not sure why. In digging around it seems like this service may have been available for some time, but I had never heard of it before. Being on of Google's many services that get's little notice or promotion I wouldn't be surprised if it just disappeared one day, but I would assume existing users could just continue using it as they would regular G Suite.

It is not entirely clear whether I can use my @gmail.com account (still) as primary login.

Also, I figured out that me having family sharing set up on my personal email account was blocking me from signing up for "Business email powered by G Suite." When I turned off family sharing I was able to clear the initial hurdles at this link, though I did not fully sign up. https://www.google.com/apps/signup/u/0/gmail/country

As you had previously noticed this link is not working in my country. Have to wait until this becomes available.

Permanently linking your personal Gmail address with G Suite has some pluses, but I am very wary of locking myself in to G Suite with the possibility of price increases, feature changes, etc. Google has a habit of taking products that work great and are loved and just ending them or turning them into something not loved, and G Suite has a lot of business focus that will only get stronger. If you cancel G Suite after doing this you also lose your personal Gmail address.

Hope this isn't a dumb question. I used GSuite before and didn't like how my regular gmail was essentially a different account with a different login. Does what you're saying mean this has been bridged and linked together?

It is my understanding this turns your personal gmail into G Suite essentially. Read the information at the links above.

That's the way I understand it too which is different than before. This is better for my situation.

Anybody actually sign up? When I try I either get an error or it goes to the gsuite signup which I think is a different product.

Can you elaborate on what you did here to turn off the family sharing? I am trying to find this but not having any luck.

It says 'This is not available for your account' (translated from Dutch).

There are restrictions on who can sign up.
