emaildiscussions.com doesn't redirect to https automatically
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/ should redirect to:
https://www.emaildiscussions.com/ so that logins and other site traffic is always encrypted. |
Well forcing SSL is not good because people running an older browser or a non-standard one will not be able to get here as easily and a site like this does not need forced SSL......
Having both http and https:// enabled is the best way, that way you dont cut someone off......... Nice to see your first post in our community :) |
I'm not aware of any modern browser not supporting https out-of-the-box and that includes more obscure browsers like qutebrowser. My main concern are the logins that go out in plain text, not so much the content of various posts. The forums are after all, more or less public.

Well here's two links. I don't have the time right now to search the forums manually, and this forums search feature doesn't allow 3 letter search terms.
https? - http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...ighlight=https Redirect HTTPS to HTTP for this forum? - http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...ighlight=https - Bruce |
Thanks Bruce. The About this site subforum only listed my own thread outside of the stickies so it wasn't obvious to me a search would reveal yet more threads.
I happen to agree with the users in those threads that the issue for a site like this isn't the content but the login information being protected. Fair enough, the admin/owner saw fit to enable the https variant of the site but didn't have http redirect to https. I'll just manually remember to punch in https. |
Ya, and this forums search feature (and many other forums' search feature for that matter..) requires a keyword to be 4 or more characters. So searching for posts that contain SSL doesn't work. I had to manually pick those two links out of a search result (that yielded 14 pages) for the keyword https.. I only went thru pages one and maybe two, so there may have been more relevant posts that I missed.

Yes. I completely agree with you about various forums usually having a limitation of minimum four characters. It's especially annoying when most unix/linux commands tend to be as few characters as possible. Stack Exchange and sites of that caliber don't seem to have this issue but you know the users would complain otherwise.
