Im listening to my Grand Funk railroad record :) (I Pluribus Funk)
Current song: People lets stop the war |
Promises - The Cranberries
Much too late I discovered The Cranberries. RIP Dolores O'Riordan.
Promises 1999 "Paris" Live Video. |

If you like this band, maybe check songs such as "Salvation" (very heavy rock) , "Ode to my family" and "Linger" (both a lot more low-key) On-topic: the last song I listened to, a few minutes ago, was "Show me love" by t.A.T.u. (often portrayed as just a gimmick, but I honestly liked their music) Before that I listened to "Forgiven" by Space Brothers. |
Now listening to "Blasphemous Rumours" by German act Angelzoom. A cover of Depeche Mode obviously, but dare I say the cover IMO is better than the original. While realising a lot of Depeche Mode fans would consider this statement blasphemous, the cover just has a lot nicer dreamier harmony and a more emotional vocal. The original has a quite dramatic lyric sung without any emotion, as if the lyric is fun to listen and dance to. The cover injects emotion into the song that the original lacks.
Maybe this could be an idea for another topic: name a cover song that improves the original |
Im listening to my WAR record :) (The world is a ghetto)
Current song: 4 cornered room |
Music hits from + 80, s and 90, s, old times :)
|
"Stimmen im Wind" by Juliane Werding.
The lyrics are quite poetic, although part of the poetry is lost in translation when translating from German to English (a common problem with non-English songs) Beautiful dreamy yet melancholic song. "Sie ist nicht verlassen, nur allein... Menschen die sich lieben sterben nie" |
Now listening to Joan Baez : "Here's to you"
Written as a protest against the death sentences of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. There was a film "Sacco e Vanzetti" about it, for which the song was written. The last 2 lines of the (short) lyrics were a quote by one of the men. Ennio Morricone wrote the music to this song. The song seems to have been re-used on the soundtrack of another film later on, "Life Aquatic". |
On a slightly different tack, I've been enjoying some analysis videos of famous rock bands over the years, and discovered a YouTube channel by "Wings of Pegasus".
This is run by a guy named Fil, and he has a real in-depth knowledge of the bands he (and I!) like, and he puts it over so well. For example, here's an example of an analysis of AC/DC: https://youtu.be/zeX3srd3ow4 Enjoy! :) |
Listening to my Jefferson Starship record :) (Dragon fly)
Current song: All fly away |
again "Here's to you" by Joan Baez.
Just before I was repeatedly playing "Ti sento" by Matia Bazar. Lovely, summer-like euphoric Italian dance music. :) |
Morning all :)
Listening to my Foghat cassette :) (Rock and roll outlaws) Current song: Rock and roll outlaws |
Tonight re-listened the entire "Non-stop erotic cabaret" and "Non-stop ecstatic dancing" albums by Soft Cell. Amongst the best concept albums I've heard in my life, and a highlight of the electronic music that rose to prominence in the eighties.
|
Very nice my friend!!
Im listening to my Kinks record right now :) (Kinkdom) Current song: Its alright |
Gregory Lemarchal - "SOS d'un terrien en détresse"
(a song which may be known even by those who cannot understand French, as Peter Kingsberry made an English translation of this song named "Only the very best". The French version was the Original one though. Lemarchal's version is itself a cover, the Original one being by Daniel Balavoine. Sadly enough both Daniel and Gregory are no longer amongst us :() |
now Maggie Reilly - "Wait" :)
Anyone still remembers her? She was the voice that made Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight shadow" and "To France" into the epic songs they've become. I Always felt it was a bit unfair those songs weren't released as "Mike Oldfield feat. Maggie Reilly" ; it were her vocals that really gave those songs that extra bit of magic. |
The God Machine - "Painless"
What an epic band. Just 2 albums, but one of the best bands ever IMO. A band that left a very huge impact on me and that I seem to never get bored of. Their songs were epic like few other bands ever sounded to me. Such a shame that the decease of the bass player restricted the career of this band to just 2 albums. 2 true gems, but still, what a loss. :( May their bass player and this band never be forgotten. |
Listening to my Traffic record :) (2nd album)
Current song: Means to an end |
Listening to traditional country music :)
http://50.7.70.58:8708 Current song: Sing Me Back Home - Merle Haggard |
Suede - "Life is golden"
Approx 25 years in the business, and they keep creating epic songs. This is by far one of their best tracks they've done in their long career IMO, very euphoric and with very hopeful soothing lyrics. The video is very beautiful too, with footage of the ghost city of Pripyat. Saw Suede live on 30th September in Brussels. Great concert, the new songs are really good, and live they're still as good as they've ever been. |
Still in a Suede modus. Now playing: "Animal Nitrate".
Found the CD single of this one in a second hand record store, bought it for just 5 €. Money well spent :) |
Listening to the sound of a fan, it's 34℃ according to my not so accurate mercury thermometer at 18:41. The weather widget on my cell phone says 30. :D
Music wise just put Gary Stewart - Quits on. |
Wow 34?? -- That IS quite hot!! (I hope your room is cooler)
Im listening to one of my 8 track tapes :) (1950s rock and roll collection) Current song: The wanderer - Dion |
That is in my room (were computer is), right now, 15:45 it is 32C according to my weather widget. Our bedroom has Aircon.
Listening to nothing at the moment. |
Listening to the Tarcus album by Emerson, Lake and Palmer; just started it, Eruption playing right now.
|
Today I discovered this band called Sleeping at Last. I love all the songs. Best for work or for a calm, chill playlist.
I believe they also sang a soundtrack on the Twlight: Breaking Dawn movie called Turning Page. |
Burn - Deep Purple
Time for a little rock ‘n’ roll.
Deep Purple performing “Burn” at the California Jam, 1974. This is the #3 lineup with David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Jon Lord (died in 2012). They still touring today with the three original members of the band: Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover plus Steve Morse and Don Airy. https://youtu.be/BxgVpSVpH6Y |

I preferred Stormbringer to Burn, but it's not classic Purple!
|
Im listening to my Elton John Cassette :) (Madman across the water)
Current song: Indian sunset |
Marillion - "Kayleigh"
Been checking out some of their earlier works the last couple of days, and pleasantly surprised by what I'm hearing. I was familiar with the "Misplaced childhood" album, but not with the other albums from the era with Fish on vocals. The title track to "Script for a jester's tear" is very good. Lyrically this band is quite good too, though sometimes a bit on the tough side for a non-native speaker. |
Now for some oldies from the very early 1980’s:
Snakefinger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YZTC0CPcGc And for a crazier video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSnc0fKvLpw He collaborated with The Residents, who are very weird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTJJb1UqjuA Bill |

Top 2000
Since 1999, the Top 2000 is an annual marathon radio program, that plays the 2000 most popular songs of all time, from Christmas through New Year's Eve. Hosted by Dutch national radio station NPO Radio 2. Over half of the population of the Netherlands listens to the broadcast each year.
During the 6 to 7 day broadcast, the station broadcasts a set of 2000 songs that have been voted on by the show's audience via Internet voting to be the "most popular songs of all time". Voters can also nominate their own choices. The song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen has traditionally been voted the most popular song on the countdown (16x). The top 10 of 2018:

Im listening to my Jimi Hendrix record :) (Electric ladyland)
Current song: Still raining still dreaming |
Listening to some Depeche Mode: "Question of Lust", then "Photographic"
Martin Gore should do lead vocals more often, he has a very nice soothing voice. Quote:
Studio Brussel, a radio station focussing more on alternative music, generally has a different chart. If I recall well, but I'm unsure by heart, Dutch language song "Mia" by Gorki (sometimes spelled Gorky) was the nr 1 in some editions. Probably the Walloon radio stations have a similar program with an all-time chart voted by listeners. I would assume at least... |
now Sisters of Mercy - "Temple of Love"
Am I mistaken or is this song about a cult? |
I just put on my Donovan record :) (Universal Soldier)
Current song: Universal Soldier |
Joe Cocker - Something & With a little help from my friends
Unrivalled performance of two Beatle songs in the Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour (1970-1971).
Of course: Joe Cocker. RIP 2014. Also worth mentioning: Leon Russell (guitar, died in 2016). Chris Stainton (organ). Rita Coolidge and Claudia Lennear (background vocals). And a lot more. What a party. https://youtu.be/Gp5VkkpSFsQ |
