Little milestone: 500,000 posts

Sometime in the last couple of days, the forums passed half a million posts. Hard to believe that so much has been said by so many, but it's all great!

Is 2^19 the maximum number the post counter can cope with without overflowing? If so, the end of EMD (as we know it) is neigh

No danger there - Offtopic.com has 136 million posts and they use Vbulletin too!

Impressive! BTW, that site has no Off-Topic Lounge;)

The post quoted above was number 514,017. :) The discrepancy (as I already noted in the thread announcing the then-shortly-forthcoming post number 500,000) being due to some posts (including at least one entire forum) being deleted over the years, plus the fact that VBulletin doesn't re-use the numbers of deleted items...

What, right nigh? This minute? ;) </old_joke>

It's been fun participating with you guys over the years. Thanks to Edwin and the Mods for keeping things running smoothly and thanks to the forum members for their contributions.

I concur, EMD is the greatest forum on the net! Edwin and all the moderators help to keep the forum organized, polite, helpful and running smoothly!

All the members are courteous, helpful and friendly, and I love being a part of this forum. I am very grateful to Malc for initially introducing me to EMD! I am an EMD-addict for sure!

:D Susan

As a relatively recent arrival, please permit me to express my appreciation to Edwin and to all who assist in making EMD a forum that is welcoming, civil, and genuinely helpful to all comers. That is an achievement which demonstrates that cyberspace need not inevitably be a horrific and hostile jungle where (as Matthew Arnold expressed it) "ignorant armies clash by night." Thanks to all who have made this possible!

90% of the credit is due to the moderator team, at least! By the time I've read the problem reports (spam etc.) they're nearly always already taken care of...

I agree that's a fantastic milestone to see and the site is still going strong.

Adam Lachlan 24 Jul 2011 11:23 PM

That in itself speaks volumes for this fantastic forum. It is arguably the most smoothly run, well disciplined forum on the net, plus I have been a member here longer than any other fora. Edwin and his compatriots do a sterling job at running it, and the members keep it fresh and up to date. Long may EMD continue.

PS, speaking of milestones, this is in fact my 1,000th post.

Congratulations Adam! your 'one word story' and 'four letter word' game are priceless.

Adam Lachlan 25 Jul 2011 12:36 AM

I can't believe they are still going after all these years. I thought the minimum character post rule had rendered them redundant.

By the way, I cannot take the credit for the four letter word game, that was Malc's idea.

It's cheers then to Malc :)
