Rank feature requests?
 

Hey all,

I know this forum has some polling capabililities and that there's a page that contains what features are being worked on. But I think it would be productive if FM conducted some kind of survey each of it's users could participate in and rank the feature upgrades they would find most useful.

I imagine you could also conduct some kind of survey that specifically targeted users of FM who aren't paying yet, i.e. what might turn them into paying customers.

And finally the same survey of potential feature development could be given to people who don't use FM but do use Yahoo, Hotmail, GMail, etc. to see how to convert these users to FM users.

In general I'm interested in the process FM uses to decide what features they want to build.

Maybe each new feature request thread could have a poll ("Will you use this feature?", or "Do you want FM to implement this?" (soon/never/long-term)).

If there is enough interest for this I could set up an unofficial poll, outside of Fastmail, in which people can indicate their preference?

If we want this I'll need a wishlist, so people can prioritize it. Shout out, and I'll update this post with the list as it is.

One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the option to have emails in my inbox sorted by the order they arrive in, not the date the sending server stamped them with (gets very annoying in email conversations when somebodies server is running 10 minutes slower than the rest!)

Could you add it to the list please!

I know it's being worked on but, I think, it's the most asked for and that's a better Address Book.

And, Yes, please do this :)

Would that be able to give a good enough result? Basically #1 = 5 points, #2 = 4 points, etc. You will need to verify your votes by means of a verification link sent by email, to prevent abuse.

Looks very good. That's some rapid prototyping you've got going on there!

I wonder if it would be useful to ask people what subscription level they're on? I suppose the problem is that people could be tempted to lie in order to make their vote seem more important. And I suppose if somehow their sub level can be determined from their email address then it's not necessary.

Also, could you clarify if we're meant to be giving a vote for each category, or only the 5 most important to us?

The wording on the linked page is a bit confusing at the moment.

You can only issue each of your five votes on one feature, in order of importance to you.

- FTP (can someone give a valid argument why we don't have this?)
- Calendar
- File attachments less limited in size
- Bandwith quota's less restrictive (even after upgrade)
- To Do (Tasks) list
- maybe access to POP/IMAP via port 80 to get around some firewalls? (like newsreader.com is offering for newsgroups)

FTP: Because it's a security risk, according to Fastmail.
Calendar: Was on the list on the server, updated now to be on the list in the post as well.
Attachment size: Added
To-Do List: Added
Proxy: Fastmail already offers access on all ports except 80... that would be a VERY strict firewall, to block everything except 80.

That's not a good answer for me. The whole world is using FTP... Don't put a door on your house to get in?

Almost all company firewalls block all ports except 80 to the outside world.

BTW I had no idea that Fastmail offered acces on ALL ports except 80! Where is that documented?

I don't see the logic of this one. You want an FM webinterface for an external usenet server? Or you want Fastmail to host a usenet server?! Shirly you can't be serious :-)
