Three pieces of software on my USB stick at the moment that make my life a lot easier:

1. Opera (browser)
2. FileZilla (FTP client)
3. Notepad++ (plaintext editor)

Had I been blessed with a far larger USB stick, I'd go for the entire PortableApps.com suite, with the addition of the abovementioned.
