FM stops showing IP addresses in Website Access Log
 

Hi all,

FM have removed another feature handy to advanced users (without notice or public explanation thus far), this time disabling IP address visibility in user-administered website access logs. Notice that IP addresses no longer appear in the 'Website Access Log', so you're no longer able to really monitor who is accessing FM-hosted data that you make available via HTTP.

I've been advised by FM that this is a GDPR compliance and privacy protection move. Given that users administer their own websites, one would think that GDPR compliance obligations should rest with users and not the host service provider. Perhaps the shared hosting infrastructure between FM users might have made such individual controls hard.

I've also seen various discussions about GDPR and IP address logging that make their decision seem quite curious, I wonder if it was really necessary to cease all IP logging. For example:
