postmaster and abuse addresses
Are postmaster@ and abuse@ addresses compulsory with vanity domains?
All what I could find about it is this: https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2142.txt dating back from 1997! I routinely create and maintain these addresses with all my vanity domains. But, reading the IETF text, it would seem that postmaster@ and abuse@ addresses are needed only for domains that send mail via SMTP. Since I never send any mail from my vanity domains, and their SPF record is Code:
v=spf1 -all By "vanity domain" I mean a domain that does not actually have a website; it's usually a misspelling. The vanity domain has a 301 redirect to the correct domain. |

Yes Janusz; in my case, it is; I have ca 150+ vanity domains. Not all domain registrars have a "set & forget" email redirection service per address; in some cases I need to point the Mx records to Tuffmail, then create addresses there; or do the same with Cloudns. If you know of an easier way, I'll be grateful.
Also, these email addresses unavoidably attract spam, which is dealt with filters, but still ends up in the spam or special folder which I feel compelled to review occasionally. |
