Photo recovery

Hi guys and gals, like an old penny, I`m back. Of course its not without reason. I`ve made a bit of a fool of myself, and deleted a folder with some important photos in it, and I need it back. I had to do a reboot of my comp due to a problem program, and the photos went in the process...Disaster!!! I know that it is possible to recover them, I`ve found a couple of programs on the net, but I`m not sure if they will work. What I was wondering if anyone knew of either a good system, or better still a free one. Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.

Try not to install anything until you get the right program, and if yo ucan, install it on a different drive. Otherwise, you stand little chance.

Then find a program that recovers stuff like that. A google search found this.

Looks like it may do the trick, but I`m in the UK, so can I still purchase it?

I imagine you can.

Regardless of what software you use, DO NOT DO MAJOR COMPUTING until you've run it. I can't emphasize this enough - the less you do, the better chances you have of getting your files back.

I think I`m well passed that, I`ve rebooted a couple of times due to a dodgy link. There was that one program which showed me a lot of old files from years ago, but I cant remember what it was.

Free. Runs without installation (like from a USB drive).

Not free, but has good reputation too.

Drive Rescue (freeware) OS: Win9x/NT/ME/2000/XP
(English)
Drive Rescue is a program for exploring your hard disk, and locating
lost files on it. The idea
for this program originated from processing a disk with
Scandisk--which suddenly contained no
data. Since off-the-shelf Windows methods could not recover any of it,
this program was
successfully created, to find important information of the file
system, to look for lost data
and to restore it.

What do you mean by "Reboot"? Rebooting is just switching off and back on again. If you've reinstalled everything, you're probably stuck. Have you looked in "System Restore"?

Carefree Frank 27 Jun 2006 07:33 AM

Sorry, I should have explained it a bit better. What I`ve done is use the Reload disk, which restores the comp to the way it left the factory.

PC Inspector is the program which I think ruined everything in the first place. I installed it, tried it, but couldnt uninstall it. My computer froze, and nothing could be done.

Yeah, you probably lost it then. The data is most likely overwritten by your new install.

Sorry dude.

Carefree Frank 27 Jun 2006 06:13 PM

Thanks for that. I`ll keep trying to recover them, but as you say, I`m probably not going to have any luck
