Four Letter Word Game
I thought we were well overdue for a new game, and I'm bored so here goes.
How to play: Change one letter of the four letter word to make a new word. Rules: 1. You cannot add letters 2. You can only use english 3. You must delete any of the four letters, then insert a replacement letter at one of three locations: the original deleted letter location, before the first letter, or after the final letter 4. You can bump the thread with a new four letter word if static for 1 week or more. 5. You cannot go twice in a row, unless rule 4 applies. 6. No rude words, remember the forum rules! 7. Words may be repeated, but not on same page. 8. You can use names and trademarks if you want to keep the game going and cannot think of anything else First word...... LOVE |
Guess I'll go with the most obvious (the forum made me type in 10 words)
oven |
move
(filler due to 10 char min for all posts) |
Mole
111111111111111111111 |
more
................. |
Sore
1111111111111111111111 |
sole
.......... |
Sold
.................... |
gold
...... |
Told
...... |
I notice that so far the three letters from the previous word have been kept in the same order. Is that supposed to be implied by rule 3, or just a coincidence?
It's not clear whether it was supposed to mean the above, a simple anagram, or replace one letter in the same place. |
I thought changing one letter meant putting a new one in the same position. Then I saw that people put the new letter in a different position, so I don't see how the rule can be interpreted to mean the order of the old letters cannot be changed but the new one can be put in a new location.
Anyway for now I'll keep them in place TOAD |

Note that there's no rule saying one cannot just go back to the previous word (or repeat any word previously used). |

CARS Popular means of transport |
CURS
Mongrel dogs or mean/cowardly persons |
CUSS
I hope that's one "swear" word that's allowed. ;) |
CUSP
Do the rules allow use of proper names? Some names are well-known in one country, but not others. |
... So I can drop a letter, and add a new one? (In this case the same letter) ...
CUPS I was hoping that someone would say don't make a "fuss" over "cuss". :p |
PUPS
......... |
POPS
... |
POPE
(the one from the Vatican. I guess POP3 does not fit the rules about being an English word). |
POEM
......... |
POET
(That's an easy one. But no, I'm not one--a poet, that is.) |

LIST

LIPS
(I wanted LISP but it's not an English word!) |
LISP
(But lisp is a perfectly valid English word. As Walt Whitman said, a carpenter's plane "whistles its wild ascending lisp".) |
LIMP
inability to walk correctly due to injury |
LIME
Calcium Oxide |
