Porkbun, domain name registrar
 

Some of you have inquired about domain name registrars. Recently, I came across Porkbun (https://www.porkbun.com). It was founded in 2014 and is probably the least-expensive registrar.

I agree. I use NameSilo and "highly" recommend it.

I have used Namesilo for several years and I recently began using Porkbun with a domain. Both have been very good so far, with Porkbun taking a slight edge on everyday pricing while Namesilo runs regular special offers that can garner you a cheap year or two. I would rate Porkbun's interface as more contemporary and generally easier to understand. Namesilo has the ability to memorize DNS settings and save them as a template for adding to other domains, which I find very useful. I used Porkbun's email customer service and was answered promptly and accurately. For me, them being located in a time zone three hours to my west means I can contact them during regular business hours (for them) but after work for me, which makes things easier and quicker.

Has anyone else here used Porkbun? If so, please describe your experience with the registrar. If you have used it, but have moved away from it, why did you do so?

ICANN accredited. Free WHOIS privacy, and a free Weebly-enabled site builder. Looks good. Weebly has a very good reputation in free webhosting. 2 USD per month mailbox hosting. Not sure though how much webspace and inbox storage you get? :confused:

.art domains sales?! I didn't know .art extention went live :eek:
.email is also having a sales with less than 4 USD for the first year.

8.84 USD per year for .com, that's quite below average indeed.
9.78 USD per year for .net

Very interesting indeed :-) Pity they don't offer any "European" extentions as yet (no .eu, .co.uk, .de, ...) ; would be extremely interesting if they'd include some of those in the offer.

I've been using Porkbun for some time now for several domains and have had zero problems and good performance. Email hosting includes 10GB of storage for $2 per month, but only one email address. Haven't tried out Weebly. It is nice to have email forwarding included with each domain, and it is very simple to set up.

Hello TenFour: Given your use of both Porkbun and Namesilo, do you have a sense of how well their email forwarding is received by the big players, i.e., is one more likely than the other to have messages rejected by Gmail?

I have not had problems with either service forwarding to Gmail. Very reliable. I would say Porkbun is a touch faster and a bit easier to use.

I have a lot of domains on both porkbun and namesilo. this time I prefer porkbun, which is more simple and easy to use.

Just registered a .net domain with Porkbun, and with a promo code ($1) got it for $4.85 :cool:

Nice! I moved most of my domains to Porkbun and in general couldn't be happier. Have not had a single problem, and save some money over most of the others. I tried their simple email briefly, but nothing special and probably not worth it unless you just need one address and very simple set up. Their normal email forwarding works reliably and is fast.

Not a major problem, but in addition to today's purchase, I had also registered a domain with Porkbun in January.

In both purchases, I had elected to pay by credit card (not an obscure provider), and you have to enter your card number and post code (zipcode).

In both instances, after inputting all the info I got an error along the lines of:

As I say, not a major problem, as I paid by PayPal instead.
