I'm using Netscape 7.02 (Mac OS 9.2) and have no problems reading or sending fastmail.fm mail. I use both IMAP and the web interface.
The only problem I had was for the brief time I was on Verizon...

Backup MX servers?
One concern I do have is it seems the two backup servers are struggling and also rejecting email. methinks the TX and EU servers need to be beefed up in order to do their job.
