If the e-mail address has a common name or phrase or word @fastmail.com, it's most probably phishing that has hooked and reeled in.

If the e-mail address is something convoluted like dhkfjkfdheroirr99933040dfjdfkhg @ fastmail.com, a phishing attempt is more unlikely.

I thought I was "lucky" to get my name when the fastmail.com e-mail addresses were made available, but because of a common name I immediately started getting spam to that address, which I somewhat remedied by whitelisting my address book only to receive for that address.
