Lycos has been sold a few times. The current owner (Ybrant Digital, an India company) set up Ybrant Media Acquisition, Inc. in the US to purchase Lycos, but this company went in and out of bankruptcy due to problems paying the previous owner of Lycos (Daum Communications Corporation - now known as Kakao - in South Korea). After a few web searches on their legal problems and looking at their
main email page (which has links such as

Guide to online security which do nothing), I would not trust them for my email.
