They're not intended to be used for serious communication IMO. If you need to sign up to a website you don't trust your real email address with, if you need to pass an email address to someone for a once-off email and you prefer to not give your real address, or if you need to send a message and you don't have your laptop with prefered mail client with you, ... then a temporary mail address can be useful. But it's a given you're not going to use it for seriously important communications.

I have good experiences with GuerillaMail but I only used it for the above purposes.
