Scarlet Letter, and how do you happen to be reading it? Most people I know had to read it in school. I prefer
The House Of Seven Gables. But best of all is a tiny book that's essentially the diary of three weeks that Hawthorne spent with his little boy,
Twenty Days with Julian and Little Bunny.
