The automatic configuration works for some clients, but not for others. Fastmail changed their server names a few months ago, so in addition to a unique
application password you will need to use the correct server names:

In addition to using webmail and the iOS app on Apple devices, I also use the Apple Mail iOS app on mobile devices and both Thunderbird and Outlook on a PC.
