My guess is that they had that logic down for free accounts and just never differentiated between free and paid for the logic of the automation. Likely they hadn't had many (if any) paid accounts that triggered the automation and then spoke up (meaning people either didn't idle the accounts or didn't notice it missing because they abandoned it).
I wouldn't be surprised if they would be interested in knowing that this happened.
