I reckon in part it's provider's bandwith. A large name provider like Inbox.com may have a lot of customers. In such cases, the bandwith is stretched between a large number of users.

On a smaller provider with less customers, and say a good connection speed, you'd get your bigger files more easily. I've personally gone for the smaller providers because you get far better speeds, you get your emails down far faster and more reliably.

I know this sounds odd, but outlook.com's Active sync option for accessing your email is very fast on a speedy connection. If you want good speed, and sharing with a mobile device, it may be worth say paying £20/£30 a year with your own domain. This way you pay for good speed and service.

I'd personally recommend asking someone like eumx.net , qiq.host and tidyhosts to name a couple. This is my own thoughts and what works for me.
