The keywords allow you to create a short name for your internet bookmarks and urls.
For example, if you love Google like everyone should, make the keyword for Google - G. Then after you launch Mozilla, just type a "G" in the address line and press enter - there is our friend Google.com.
It is a nice way to get to your favorite sites from the keyboard. There may be more that you can do, but that is what I like about the keywords.
