What do you mean by "e-mail verification service"? Something which would tell you if a given address is active?
I'm not aware of any legitimate service of that type.
Besides, with many (a great majority of, AFAIK) email services addresses can be reassigned after a period of inactivity. So today
john@example.com may belong to somebody else than your friend from years ago.
