I'm now using Linux Mint and dealing with a "helpful" update to Firefox 57: the latest version of Firefox constrains file saves to the local Downloads folder.

That's not the case on the Windows version of FF v57.0.4; there's still an option to be asked every time where a file should be downloaded to. I'm curious why FF on linux would be different. Maybe it's something to do with (and circumventable by) options described at:

If I try to view a file in my Fastmail file storage using a browser I get a plain text file.

I don't see that on pre-existing .html files I have in FM's fle storage, viewed (by clicking the View button on the file-storage folder viewer page). Has the file got the right 'type' set [text/html]? - you can change it via the 'Edit' button.
