IMPORTANT NOTICE: Lycos is replacing the POP3 service for something better...

Dear Lycos Email POP3 user,

Lycos will discontinue it's POP3 service on the 21st of October 2003. But don't worry, you can still access your Lycos Email through Outlook and Outlook Express by using our new synchronisation tool.

It's better than POP3*
Synchronisation lets you delete, create or move folders in Outlook and the same will happen automatically in Lycos's web interface.

Using your webmail when travelling? No worries - any changes you make on the web will be reflected in Outlook when you get home!

Folders, and Emails in Outlook and Lycos web based Email are in Sync. Want to find out more or find out how to set up syncing yourself? Or let Lycos install it for you.

* When you use POP you have only two limited options. Either download all your email or keep a complete copy on the web server.

It works too. To set it up manually the URL is spelt incorrecty on the page, it should be http://webdav.lycos.co.uk/httpmail.asp (note the "b"). I wonder if Fastmail will be able to retreive it too, like it can with Hotmail?

Mind you, it does force you to use Microsoft products in order to access it.

So basically, Lycos.co.uk is switching from a POP server to an HTTP server.

I can't see that you would need to be restricted to Microsoft if you have another e-mail client that supports HTTP.

Thanks for your (note for "b") info. it is importance.
I also setup in Outlook Express. It works.
Lyco.co uk may be the first one support HTTP protocal, besides Hotmail and Msn.

Plus. you can collect up to 5 Hotmail, Yahoo or POP3 accounts into your Lycos "Aggregated Mail" folder, with 10 MB of storage -- or 15, if you are grandfathered.

Hey it does work OK with Outlook Express 6.0

I did download the setup file and click to install it and it put the http server data into Outlook Express OK. I have been using hotmail with http server for over two years or so and it does work very well.

So this appears to be a welcome addition to lycos.co.uk offerings. I don't know if they are changing the 15mb present offering and reducing it or just moving toward http server approach to email services.

lycos http via fastmail

Has anyone been able to get it to work through fastmail's pop links? I've been trying many combinations but still getting an error.

Unhappy Aw, nuts!

Well, my response is "Aw, nuts!" First because I don't use Outlook, in any form. And second because I opened my Lycos.co.uk account specifically to use it as a POP account. Oh, well, I guess I'll have to start using my MyRealbox.com account regularly again.

Best wishes,
David P.

wrong HTTP server address

In another thread gunnarj posted that the manual instructions given by lycos.co.uk contained an error.

The correct address for the HTTP server is http://webdav.lycos.co.uk/httpmail.asp .

Everything is working fine now.
