Any updates on how AOL mail service has evolved lately?

AOL and yahoo email are the same. Same front end, same backend. Same sh.t. . They cannot solve the issue of generating application password for a half a year. Users complain on account locks even if user enters correct password. Email collection from external accounts has been removed.

Aol.com, yahoo.com and myyahoo.com are domains of the same email service.

With my account, I use @AIM.com instead of @AOL.com .

AIM = AOL Instant Messenger

You may want to check if the alias works for you too.

[addendum]
"use" may not be the correct word. The only correspondence to my account are test messages that I send to myself.

@aim.com is an alias of @aol.com. Exactly the same as @googlemail.com is an alias of @gmail.com

15-20 years ago @aol.com was an email for paid AOL accounts and @aim.com was allocated to AIM Instant Messenger users.

And before this (2000-2003) all AIM Messenger users got address @netscape.net, but you cannot register @netscape.net anymore

I still have this email xxx@netscape.net. It is actually the alias of xxx@aol.com, the same as xxx@aim.com.

I can still use my @netscape.net, @aim.com and @aol.com email addresses, just tested them, still good.

Anybody know if AOL account used on a "third-party" mobile email app (as on smartphone) for which the app is designed to easily accept AOL as one of the "Add Account" choices stops this problem, at least on the mobile device equipped with that software?

That question I asked was so messy, that becomes very difficult to understand. Let me try rewording that.

Suppose a user has a mobile email app and when the user wants to Add an account, maybe one of his AOL account to this mobile app, he is offered some choices to say which PROVIDER is of the account. AOL is one of those listed providers.

QUESTION: Would the user not need to generate an app specific password for the AOL account to be put onto this mobile app?

For most mobile apps, no app password required because they support oauth2.

But if you use Outlook on PC, then you need to generate app password because MS Outlook doesn't support oauth2 of Yahoo and AOL except, may be, latest version.

for PC you can use thunderbird which supports oauth for AOL mail.

Not seem to be so. I tried using Thunderbird a few days ago and some problem with one of the accounts; I believe an AOL, but I'll have to go back and check on it again (unless I removed the account). I have a new account (Yahoo) I might try using just to test it on T-bird.
