Gmail use us only as a product? Time to switch to other mail provider?

Hi,

i read on this forum about the privacy concerns that some people tell about Gmail (and about other big data as Yahoo and Microsoft).

I need only a question, but if i Switch to fastmail or runbox i'm secure that they don't use or sell my personal data?

This choice is better to protect me from be used as a product?

I read a lot and it's so incredible how google can profile a person and how precise info can they extract from your gmail, your surf and your photos! After that i think that is better switch, become i'm not a product and Google is transforming people into that.

What do you think about?

And don't send any e-mails to your contacts that use Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc.

So cut yourself off from roughly 75% of email users.

If everyone did that they would stop data mining. Yeah I know. Fat chance.

It's my best guestimate (emphasis on the 1st syllable). BTW, it roughly agrees with the contents of my email address book.

Actually, I'm really curious to see the market share of email services.

For what it's worth, Gmail + Outlook have 88% market share.

Add Yahoo! and AOL in to the mix, and you must be talking at least 95%.

When you think about it, we all use other internet services as a product; when we access other services (to do reviews, etc) before purchasing from a third party, we are in fact guilty of this; we do this knowing that the site we are dealing with will do this to others as well as ourselves, in order to make a few dollars more.

That being the case, I do not really mind using GMail for that portion of my mail where I do not really trust the recipient to in any way value my privacy.

It's 'tit for tat' - really
