May be we should learn these rules by ROTE.

But here comes a hair-splitting question: does 'a replacement letter ' in rule 3 imply that is has to be a different letter from the one you deleted? I see no logical contradiction in replacing e.g. 'E' by 'E ' Then at least some anagrams would be legit....

Hopefully it won't ever be enough of an issue to cause a RIFT between any of us; and we can figure it out!

Hey, I thought my post was FINE.
  • MOET > MOT (per rule #3, I deleted one letter, the 'E')
  • MOT > MOTE (per rule #3, I added a replacement letter 'E' after the final letter.
  • So I don't understand why creating a new word in this way isn't following the rules to the letter. There is no definition of "replacement letter", but I would assume that any letter from A-Z would be appropriate. Of course, an identical replacement at the same location is prohibited by rule #7.

Hopefully we'll all FIND that totally acceptable (including Malc) as I think we've been doing it all along and enjoying the heck out of it.

I agree that your post is fine and agree that anagrams are allowed (without breaking the rules) - That said, not all anagrams are legal. I now suggest that we celebrate that fact, by drinking a glass of wine. But what ever am I suggesting, Sherry has invalidated my glass of fine wine (by beating me to the point) so, I now suggest the we wind this topic down (at least for the moment)

I agree that a nice glass of WINE would be good right now, David. Right now I'm posting using a cellular wireless access module on my laptop in a salad bar restaurant, a common place for me to access this forum. They don't have alcoholic beverages, so I will drink to you EMD members by holding up a glass of iced tea and toasting our good fortune in finding this great forum!

Thanks, Sherry! I often DINE at the salad/soup restaurant while posting here. And my home PC location is where I can eat and watch TV and listen to the radio while posting, truly multi-tasking. Where are you others posting from?

I am just done eating and am drinking a glass of fine Californian Shiraz, at my cottage, situated on the edge of the old growth forest (by a lake) on mid Vancouver Island.
