There is rumor of a new? plug in or addon, app, for us using Firefox. It encrypt the searches. You still use google but others will not read what you search?

Hi, drew

Thanks for the suggestion.

One of the FF add-ons is this one, which already has the notification of Scroogle's possible retirement in the review section (so it presumable won't work any longer), as well as two suggestions for other courses of action: a different add-on (GoogleSharing, which I haven't tried yet) and Ixquick, a privacy-conscious search engine).

https://encrypted.google.com/

Not what I vaguely remember but at least only google know instead of the whole world know what we search for.

Maybe this one? Is this one scroogle related?

Privacy Groups Launch Secure Firefox Browser Plug-In

21 June, 2010, by James Cullimore

The Tor Project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation have released a new Firefox extension.

The new extension will allow users to encrypt the information they share on social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The HTTPS Everywhere add-on works with websites including Google Search, Wikipedia, Identi.ca, Ixquick, DuckDuckGo, Scroogle and some search engines.

The outfits said that the HTTPS Everywhere Firefox add-on has been inspired by the encrypted search option launched by the search giant Google.

EFF explained that many websites offered support for HTTPS, but made it very difficult to use.

This is really bad news for me. Scroogle is my main search engine.

I really hope they could find a solution and be back in business.

It was my default search engine as well. For the time being I've gone back to using Ixquick, but I also use Clusty/Yippy frequently, though it doesn't have the same privacy reputation as Scroogle and Ixquick.

Btw, thanks, drew, for the ITProPortal link.

I like Ixquick, but they'll be even better if they could also add Google on their list of search engines. That's why I like Scroogle.

I think I get better results in Ixquick than Clusty, but I don't think Clusty is bad.

Apparently... It looks like Ixquick is using Google.
