In the old (soon to be no more) classic interface (which does not support conversations) one or more individual messages are easily copied to additional folders.

Unfortunately, the current interface does not have any easily discoverable way to achieve this. The trick is to bring the folder into view of the left, then to hold the Alt key while dragging the message to the desired folder. Note that FastMail has decided that, if a message does exist in multiple folders, the same message will appear multiple times in the conversation view. (They are aware of this, and consider it correct behavior.)

BritTim, yup... things are not looking very good for the future of FM in terms of the loss of the Classic UI, and the critical features so loved by some of us

I am not looking forward to June 30th...

Seems easy enough to do on the web client. You can easily do it on an IMAP client like Apple Mail. Not sure how to do it on a phone.

In conversation view, the web client collects messages from all folders. So you don't even have to copy/duplicate any mail. Just move one single message into the desired folder, then you'll see the same conversation in both folders and of course in the Sent folder as well.

I can't tell how this is handeled by other IMAP mail clients.
