down again?
I haven't gotten a response from the mail server in, I think, a couple of hours or more. Can't ping mail.messagingengine.com. Can't load the FM home page. Everything else on the web seems to be fine.

It must be a problem with the network path between your ISP and FastMail. Have you tried a traceroute to see if you can gather more information on the issue? I would also try to access www.nyi.net to see if the problem affects all sites served through New York Internet.(NYI). If the problem does not get resolved, you will need to contact support at your ISP.

Thanks for the replies. It cleared up while I was asleep, so further diagnostics are not useful, but I'm still glad to know it was just network and not FM. Traceroute was not telling me anything useful; it was getting into the Qwest part of the path and then dying. Next time I'll try to remember nyi.net ... I remembered New York Internet but did not know what URL to try.
