IMHO most remakes fail becuz the original was the interpetation of the Director & that's what made it memorable in the first place.
A song can be remade & if the performer/arranger has a creative interpetation of it that can work (or just as easily stink) also. The 80's " The Thing" was an excellent movie, John Carpenter is a great director. Why "Assault on Precinct 13" one of his 1st features & a B movie classic was remade is beyond me besides being a payday for the production team.. It seems that movies that were popular in the 80's are being dredged up for a new audience & any nuance & sublety in the original gets tossed aside. |

BTW, I have high hopes for Peter Jackson's King Kong after the fine job he did with the LotR trilogy. |

Ring 2 is somewhat scary, although a bit illogical. I.E - they move to some isolated town, magically samara find them.
You would definately need to see the first Ring to get the second one. EG - there is no explanation of who or what samara is. |

I saw that one and didnt like it as much as the 1990 one.... Everyone dies for one thing.. For the most part I DO NOT LIKE REMAKES. I value purity and originality...... |

Little Shop of Horrors.
The original was supposed to be a horror movie, by the standards of its era. The remake is certainly not a horror movie by any standard, but it is hilarious! |
