Search Filter

Hi,

Ive read through the wiki and the help pages for Search syntax.

I wanted to set a filter fo mails received int the last 4 hours.
so my filter was
Code:
since:"4 hours ago"
I also tried

Code:
since:"4 hours"
and both gave me weird results.
Has anyone tried this and have been successful?

I get a lot of mails and a saved search filter works wonders sometimes.

Please let me know the correct syntax.

Arrow Confirmed search "since" bug

I just tested some of this, and I'm sure this is due to a bug. I don't remember seeing this before, so I think it is a recent bug. The Fastmail servers are at the NYC Datacenter in the -0400Z timezone. The bug seems to cause the following behavior:
  • If you search using "since" for an interval which begins after midnight today at NYC (-0400 timezone), the search returns all messages received today at NYC.
  • If you search using "since" for an interval which begins after midnight yesterday at NYC (-0400 timezone), the search returns all messages received yesterday or today at NYC.
  • So in your case, the search returns all messages received today at NYC datacenter.
I just sent Rob Mueller at Fastmail a detailed report about this bug.

Arrow Not a Fastmail bug -- it's an IMAP search limitation

OK, after communicating with Rob Mueller at Fastmail he points out that this is not a bug at Fastmail -- it's just how the IMAP Search command works. If you look at RFC 3501 (IMAP4 standard) section 6.4.4 (Search command), you will see that the response to SINCE <data> is:
Quote:
Messages whose internal date (disregarding time and timezone) is within or later than the specified date.
Rob says that he would like to eventually improve this to take into account the time and timezone. But right now the Cyrus IMAP server used by Fastmail does this as specified by the standard, with no regard to the time.

Hi,

Can we get this to work and 'recognise' timezones?
