Colour changed?

Is it just me or is the colour theme of this site changed?

It's not just you. I see it, too.

First it was Coca-Cola, then it was FastMail - and now EMD?

Bring back the classic!

I'm experimenting with a few things

(Which is shorthand for "you might see more changes, I'm not sure yet...")

I hope not Edwin...

I liked the colours as they were (I love this site)

They arent really too bad though (If your planning on leaving them this way not to worry..... I just liked it BETTER before )

The colour on QUOTED TEXT seems nice though!

Anyway of making it MULTIPLE COLOURS if more than one reply is quoted?

EXAMPLE:

Quote:
This is dark yellow
Quote:
this would be green
Quote:
this would be red
I have seen this on IPB but not ever on VBB.. I think it looks nice.. Quite colourful

Take a look @ this Edwin to see what I mean

Reply #8 -- Notice the 2 quotes .... I wish i could find MORE than 2 colours as its very pretty...... (Sadly the site upgraded to IPB3.x and its not as nice as all (Multi colour quote is gone and more .. Not as nice to look at ..... Quite sad ppl have to "upgrade" for NO REASON!!)

I really dislike that 'muddy brown' colour in the headings.

The orange I switched it to should go better with the dark blue.

Done some more tweaking. I didn't realise just how "muddy" all the old colours were until I really started looking at them in detail. The new colours should hopefully be a lot more "cheerful".

Also made a number of changes to make the first post in a thread much more obvious. That way once you get used to the new scheme, you'll always know if you're at the start of a thread or not just by glancing at the screen. Should help for multi-thread discussions. These include: different background colours, thread title in a slightly larger font, small extra space between the end of the first post and the rest of the thread to "offset" it a bit and make it stand out.

Some forums (like Opera?) also have the feature of showing one's own posts in a different color (if one is logged in, of course), so that a member can scroll down through a thread quickly and see those.

I don't know if this is something users here might find convenient or not.

I had a quick look but that would involve a vBulletin "hack" rather than a template change, and I'm not going to implement any new hacks.

Can be handy.
Another method I've seen is to change the colour of the poster's handle/username to highlight own posts.

Edwin, people perceive colors differently, and of course screens differ as well. The 'orange' doesn't look orange to me, and the 'dark blue' isn't dark, but the main thing is that regardless of the shades they are supposed to be, they are jarring and distracting and really quite unnecessary. I agree with someone earlier who said the tan background in quoted text was pleasant enough, but other than that, the color changes so far seem to me to add nothing, and to detract quite a bit from the former look, which put the emphasis where it belonged -- on the words.

I am not against change per se, I just see no need for colorizing the site at all. The old look was pleasant and conducive to the site's purpose and didn't get in the way. The new look is mentally jumpy and distracting. I know it is subjective and I speak only for my own eyes and brain of course, but I must be honest and say that for me at least, the changes have been entirely negative and have diminished the ease and pleasure that I take in perusing the site.

This is just one vote, but I do wonder mournfully why it is so often necessary to 'fix what ain't broke', and I also note sadly that 'improvements' (in any context) almost never actually improve things and often seem to accomplish the opposite. My heart sinks whenever I see 'New and Improved' on something that I like and enjoy, and now it seems the phenomenon has cropped up again, here at EMD. Alas.
