As that price is now quite competitive when compared to Pobox, I'm wondering if anyone on the forum that uses or has used Pobox could offer a comparison of the both?

I have used POBox.com but not SimpleLogin. POBox works as advertised, with good deliverability, speed, and spam filtering. I wonder how the deliverability and speed are with SimpleLogin?

Can’t really compare. I have a Pobox Mailstore account, the lookalike of Fastmail. And equally reliable.
Simplelogin (paid) has by default unlimited aliases. A plus compared to Pobox. There you need a own domain for that.

It seems that Simple Login have made a mistake, they've just tweeted:
