In Official Beta: Runbox Introduces Webhosting With All Runbox Accounts
I am happy to inform you that Runbox will include webhosting with all Runbox accounts at no extra cost -- that is FREE. The service is launched in beta mode as there are integration and support issues that need to be sorted out over some time.
The free accounts will have CPANEL administration interface 100 MB of storage space and 4 GB of transfer per month and include domain hosting. We are working on the integration issues into the rest of the Runbox application. The webhosting setup and administration will eventually be integrated into the webmail application. For now all webhosting accounts will have to be set up manually on request. To have your account setup please email webhosting at runbox.com and specify the domain you want to use for your webhosting account. For more information see: http://www.runbox.com/twiki/bin/view...nfo/WebHosting We are launching this to improve the Runbox service for all Runbox users. Thank you. Regards, Hans Lysglimt Founder - Runbox |

Suddenly 49.95 per year looks very reasonable.
Congrats Hans and and the Runbox Team. Rishi Edit - Just one question, what if people host multiple domains on runbox account, can we host this domains on the webhosting account as well ? Last edited by rishi : 9 Jun 2006 at 02:45 AM. |

I have already established a hosting account and uploaded my site. The process was easy and smooth - already works better than many established website hosters...
I have to commend Runbox.com: they seem to have the foresight, vision and guts to do what others don't! This is the formula to success... - among the companies frequently discussed here they were the first, after Gmail, to offer 1 Gig account, the first (and only) to offer 10 Gig accounts, the first to offer a real Website Hosting account. Truly commendable! |

Does the service include the ability to run Perl and/or PHP scripts?

Erm, here is something I need to test out
I already have a reseller hosting account + a VPS for my domains but I was looking to get a tiny one to monitor their uptime, etc. Just one question, have you got a dedicated server for the webhosting part or is it on a server already in use by the Runbox architecture? I am wondering that regarding the server loads to know if these could have a negative effect on the webmail part or not. Regards, Ludo |

Glad people are happy about this.
The webhosting is run separately from the rest of runbox (outsourced, if you will). Liz |

I'm guessing not ... or at least not immediately.
As Liz said they are using a third-party hosting service so any Runbox address would have to redirect to the host server which means Runbox would probably have to add software to support that. Maybe a subdomain reference would work ... username.runbox.com? The DNS server might be able to redirect that to the hosting server. I don't know though ... I'm not that knowledgeable of what you can and can't do with the DNS server. But I suppose it depends on the requirements of the hosting server. Just ramblings on my part ... don't know for sure.
