I have read that a GOAT will even eat oats, but you best beware of the 'Curse of the Billy Goat'
In order to counteract the curse you could try singing this song. |

The curse said "they [the opponents] aren't gonna win no more". I don't think that, for the game in question, the wording 'they aren't gonna score a single GOAL" would be appropriate.

It would raise significant GALL in Cubs fans to call a baseball run a goal!

When the ball flies over the WALL, it's not because someone kicked it.

My wife says a loud WAIL was heard from near my computer when I tried to follow the explanation of baseball given in the link in David's post.

I seet you set the BAIT for our British and Commonwealth members. Be sure to pay attention to cricket advice before paying your game of choice.

Some local outdoor activities here in North Texas came to a HALT this summer due to the West Nile virus, which is spread by certain mosquitoes from birds to humans.
I live in Dallas County, which has the largest number of cases this year. As of today, 13 people have died from this serious illness in my local county this year, and several more in the adjacent counties. Due to weather this year and the behavior of birds when it is very dry (looking for stagnant ponds for water), this is suddenly the US hotbed of this deadly disease. And thanks, janusz. I needed someone to advise me to spell advice correctly. |

Ball games, of many varieties are the SALT of the earth for many! but I do agree that it is time to move on to other things - any topic but 'super heroes' will suffice

How about the SALK polio vaccine? That ties in with my virus topic ....
I'm curious -- I have several (older) friends who had polio when they were children, and I was born around the peak year for polio cases in the US. Does anyone younger (born after the mid-1960's, for example) even know what polio is? |

Polio reached epidemic proportions in the UK around 1947 (a few years after I was born) Many of the children in my school were infected (or had brothers and sisters that were infected with the disease) - I always considered myself fortunate that I never became infected myself. Many doctors and specialists did BALK when the testing of new vaccines began; there was much disagreement as to what was the actual cause.....
