Passkeys / WebAuthN / FIDO
Anyone know if Fastmail has plans to implement passkeys as the primary method of authentication?
Thanks, festus |

I suspect everyone will have to introduce Passkeys once Google, Microsoft, and Apple go fully that way. The money in email is in business customers and they will begin to demand it if they already use Passkeys with their other major online accounts. I have read that a high percentage of business held desk work is employees locked out due to password problems. Having sat near the IT department a few years back I believe it--constant calls from locked out employees. Hopefully, Passkeys will help with that problem. The one thing I am waiting for is how this will work with the major password managers. It seems in most cases you will still need to store a traditional password in order to login if the Passkey fails for some reason, and also I need all sorts of other private information for most accounts that would require the security of a Passkey. For example, several sites require a PIN or other code in addition once you're logged in. Also, since I use a wide variety of email addresses I often can't remember exactly which one goes with which site. Stuff like that gets stored in the Password manager.
