Your favourite TV shows!

So, its time to name your favourite TV shows! They can be past, present or future!

Were you a Brady Bunch fan in groovy 70's? A Dad's Army fan in the 60's? Perhaps you thought that Full House was trendy in the 80's, or that the X-Files funky in the 90's?

Well here's my choices, one from each decade

1960's - Hmm, Dr Who? Never really seen any shows from then
1970's - Mash maybe
1980's - Fast Forward, Neighbours
1990's - The Nanny, X-files and The Simpsons
2000's - Big Brother, Scream Test, Medium, Law and Order: Criminal Intent

What about you?!

1960's - the sport
1970's - the sport (and the news)
1980's - the news (and the sport and maybe current affairs - we don't have that in Oz anymore)
1990's - the sport (and the news)
2000's - the sport and the news

Exciting person, aren't I?

Jeff

There's no way I can remember which decade a TV show first aired so I'm taking my mind waaay back to my favorite sitcom to cover the past:

???? I Love Lucy

Moving ahead, maybe at least one decade?

???? All In The Family and the spin off The Jefferson's

This may not be a decade later and may even be earlier:

???? Star Trek

Now to cover the present and the future all in one:

2005 Lost (the last episode will air next week)

hehe typical country fella! My dad's the same.

Oh, and I always thought that Today Tonight with Naomi Watts is ever so serious, unbias and comprehensive current affairs coverage

1960's - My Favorite Martian
1970's - Barney Miller
1980's - Hill Street Blues
1990's - Law & Order, Star Trek TNG
2000's - Regenesis, Medium

It would be interesting and probably shocking to find out how many hours of TV each of us have watched in our lifetime.

My Favourite Martian was awesome!

The Prisoner.
Wild Wild West.
Twilight Zone.
Land of the Giants.
Time Tunnel.
Mr Ed.

Now, nothing really interests me on tv. I attempt to watch the occasional program with my wife so she dosn't feel alone but its a struggle. Have you ever had to sit through Top Model? Or worse ... Desperate Housewives.

Oh but wait it gets even better! We get the pleasure of seeing as a guest star, none other then Oprah Winfrey. Oh yay.

Thanks darrylb. Looks like I covered 4 different decades. Lets just say the I Love Lucy episodes were reruns.

You're welcome...and you're right: just looked up Lucy, that was the 50s I knew it was THE first sitcom ever, but I didn't know when it started.

- Nothing really... what a sad decade, I'm glad I was too young to be disappointed in this crap.

90s
- The Simpsons (for the first 7 or 8 seasons before it started to really suck)
- The first three seasons of Buffy (when the show was still funny and not so rife with teen angst)

00s
- MI-5 (Spooks for those who saw the original show on BBC)
- Futurama (they should have cancelled The Simpsons and given Futurama its time slot -- Simpsons was really stale by this time)
- The Venture Brothers (the only good show on Adult Swim anymore besides Futurama reruns)
- Good Eats (started in 90s but I didn't see it)
- Iron Chef (ditto)
- The new Battlestar Galactica (I'm as surprised as you are)
- Speed Channel's coverage of F1 and World Rally Championship racing (beats Nascar any day)
- All that stuff I download from the internet rather than watching it on TV (stupid broadcasters not adhering to my schedule)

Honestly though, I think I spend maybe 5-9 hours a week watching TV, sometimes less. TV news is basically worthless these days (in every country, people need to stop kidding themselves into thinking that only the American media is screwed up) so I tend to get my daily dose of current events from other sources. Really, I only turn the TV on when I want to vegetate if I'm extremely tired or something. Otherwise, I'd just rather read or tinker with things or if I'm going to watch something, it's usually recorded rather than broadcast.

Hmmm, without being rude I'd really have to strongly disagree on that point. In Aussie I would say roughly one third of programing is Australian, another third is from the UK (mostly bbc) and the final third is american.

I honestly think that the BBC material is more comprehensive and entertaining (think especially documentaries here). Most Australian programs are ok, and fairly successful overseas; think Kath and Kim, Neighbours, Home and Away etc.

American stuff like Newlyweds, The biggest loser, Passions etc is just, well, not alltogether that great.

old stuff... Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, the old Alfred Hitchcock TV show, the first 3 or 4 years of Law and Order, the first few seasons of MASH, Kung Fu (pretty good although when I see it today I can see how a lot of it is laughable)
