recovering "sent" email that seemed to be lost

Oh, my g-d! This totally worked! I had even shut down and rebooted, and it still worked! It didn't seem to do anything, but when I checked the "sent mail" folder, it had been sent!

I even pressed F5 more than once, and it only sent it once!
