It's obvious, but before I look seriously at any email provider I plug the name into the search function here and do some reading on other people's experiences and often problems with the provider. Another thing to do is to test it out for awhile with a domain that isn't critical and before you move all your old email over, etc. Sometimes everything looks great for awhile until you find some snag that might be important to you.
