That's not exactly hot news. From the Verizon-AOL FAQ pages
Quote:
If you haven't migrated your verizon.net email to AOL Mail before April 1, 2016, you will still have 6 months to migrate your email if you remember your password. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover the password if you haven't migrated your email by April 1st.

Not exactly among "us guys", but two of my regular correspondents use @aol addresses (as their only one AFAIK). Strangely enough, neither lives in the USA.

Here I saw some people from HongKong use AOL Mail for communications.

Hell no!!! I still have 2 AOL accounts but only because it's a damn hassle to delete them..! Even after years of not logging in they still there....I made them somewere in 1998 or 1999 when I got my first Internet connection.

AOL is just like a sick old dog...somebody has to put it out of his missery.

if you want to use something on daily bases for free I'd suggest Yandex, mail.ru or Outlook/Gmail if you don't have a problem with their privecy policy. But definately NOT AOL.

Dutchie.

AOL has the problem of emails not coming through, a bit like iCloud.

How about comparing AOL and YAHOO? Which one is worse?
YAHOO's webmail has too many ads.

The ads are not the problem. I dont mind the ads, after all its a free product. For that you can use an ad blocker service in your browser. The problem is the service at AOL itself. My experience is that with a (free) AOL account many emails do NOT reach their destination!! Thats UN acceptable. Sure Yahoo isn't perfect but imho way better then the email service of AOL.

I do not want to list all the problems that AOL (free) email service has....I guess if you do a 5 minute search on this very forum will show what is the problem. I would advice anybody to stay away from AOL for daily useage. And if you do, sooner or later you will regret it.

AOL is outdated.....lack of service....technicaly obsolete and years behind services like Yandex,Gmail,Outlook or mail.ru.

"A sick old dog that needs to be put down" is a very accurate description of AOL. It would also apply to Yahoo.

I'm afraid that IF verizon realy buys Yahoo...thez will have 2 wet cats in the same bag...LOL.
I dont think Yahoo will recover from this.

In my area actualy nobody uses AOL or Yahoo on a daily basis, Infact the youngsters hardly use ANY email....I'm an old geezer so I still have those accounts out of youth sentiments....hahahahahaha. Today it's all whats app,Viber...or stuff like that. Even job applications are being send with that.

Then again in Germany civil servants still use the FAX machine..!! Go figure.

But for daily use...I prefer Yandex,Mail.ru..and when in Bulgaria (my second home) I use abv.bg (and their android app) or mail.bg.

My experience is different. For some 15 years I've been regularly exchanging emails with two friends with free AOL addresses, say a dozen emails per week, and I see no evidence of my messages, or theirs, going astray.
