I'm going to assume just like when they switched from @hotmail.com to @live.com the old email addresses @hotmail.com will continue to work just as normal.

Hotmail is a terrible domain, Live and Outlook both sound nice and neat. For private communication I always use webmail but at work I got used to Outlook. If this new outlook.com would be the interface with drag and drop like Outlook, but accessible through webmail, then I'd maybe give it a try despite my earlier intentions not to try anything Microsoft related anymore.
My issues with Hotmail and Live were mainly the lack of reliable support (although at least, even if slow, they responded -- a bonus compared to Yahoo or Gmail), the ad-filled interface and the short inactivity limits. And indeed, as noticed, they changed the design too often, not really nice if you want just rock solid stable email. Any change is like having to learn how to walk again, if you know what I mean. I personally also dislike the integration of Facebook and Twitter, but I thought Hotmail did not have that (at least when I last used it, maybe that changed meanwhile) If they'd make the service look a bit like Outlook but then in webmail accessible version, and they'd change the inactivity limit and keep the service separate from social networking sites... then maybe I'll give it a try. Still the support issue and the question how long it will be until they change the whole design again are a mild turn-off. That said, there is a big bonus too: of all companies out there, Microsoft is probably the least likely to ever go bankrupt, so if there is one mail provider likely to provide email until the end of the internet as we know it, it must be Microsoft (regardless if they use Hotmail, Live or Outlook as domain) |

I must say, they certainly added a lot of smileys/emoji. (For those who like including that sort of eye-candy.)

You don't need to revert, as you can log in at either location with the same username and password. At least that is the way it is working for me, with my Hotmail account.

I will mention as well, that if you go into 'options' you can secure your old msn username, at Outlook com. So: whatever@msn dot com, can be registered as: whatever@outlook dot com - your old username (at msn) will not be lost and you can use it as well.

I will mention that today (when I tried to login to Hotmail) that I was taken to the 'Outlook' interface, so it is not working as I said before. There is however (in the 'Outlook' 'Options' interface) a menu item you can click on, that will allow you to revert back.

Has anybody seen any time schedule for
when they will roll out this change? Do they take USA first and then Canada and then Europe and then? Weeks or months or just a few days ahead? I want to warn my relatives they are not that good at computers. |

I really like the minimalist Outlook.com interface.
Pro's: clean; very fast; you can easily switch to another Outlook.com account without loggin in again. Con's: advertising is more intrusive than Gmail; message headers still show that they are sent from hotmail servers, yuck! |

Sounds pretty weird. I created a new username. but did not get anything since I did not hand it over yet or published on the web. Mail I received were sent to my forwarded Google Apps account.
