Plus and subdomain addresses with aliases
Say I have an alias "mail2"
If I send mail to mail2+anything@domain.tld it is delivered flawlessly. However trying anything@mail2.domain.tld it fails. Why? Isn't subdomain addressing supposed to work with aliases too? Am I missing something? Thanks, Oded. |

As I recall, subdomain addressing works with FastMail domains, but not automatically with your own domains. I seem to remember that it can only work with special setup of the DNS.

Perhaps you could post which domain.tld you are using; should be no security issue since it is a Fastmail domain. I or someone else will repeat your test and see whether we can debug what is wrong. Perhaps Fastmail, which has a lot of domains of course, did not things set up right for one of them.
I also use the form anything@mail2.domain.tld with domain.td being fastmail.com, and it works flawlessly for me. Last edited by lane : 16 Apr 2018 at 10:33 PM. Reason: typo |

I never use it but do you have to set it up an identity for it to work?

Hi odedp,
subdomain addressing should work the same way as plus addressing. When you say "it fails" you mean the mail isn't sorted into the folder it is supposed to be or doesn't the mail arrive at all? In general, when using subdomain addressing, your 'anything' must not contain a dot 'any.thing' or an underscore 'any_thing' according to https://www.fastmail.com/help/receive/addressing.html I use subdomain addressing a lot and don't have any issues. |

OK.
Problem solved! It turned out that I had a discard rule for anything@alias2.domain.tld. Long time ago I received a lot of spam at this specific alias so I had to create this rule. Thank you all for your time and help Sorry for bothering you for no reason... Oded. |
