Setting Email Default Problem
There seems to be a problem with this setup:
http://jhoward.fastmail.fm/mailto_fm.reg Clicking on the above link and installing this on the C: drive is suppose to make clicking on an email address like: webmasterXX@XXfastmail.fm EDIT: ( "XX" before and after @ sign) open a fastmail compose window in a new window with the corresponding email address in the To: line. It's does not seem to be working. I have set this up and clicking on a "mailto:" link on a web page simply brings me to fastmail the fastmail page, but it neither captures the target email address which I intend to send to nor bring me to the compose window. If I then click on "compose", the To: line is blank. Please assist. Isn't this supposed to have the email address in the To: line in the compose window? I'm using IE Last edited by FromLine : 19 Aug 2002 at 06:22 AM. |

Yes, that's what it's supposed to do. Looks like it might have got broken when we changed our server infrastructure recently. I'll ask Rob if he knows what's happening.

Thanks, what actually happens is:
1) It looks for the very long URL with the with emailaddress@domain.com in the title, but it's idle and can't find it. 2) It then defaults to the fastmail page instead Yes, I think the old command or code needs to be updated. |

OK, there isn't elegent, but it's a workaround which should work for now...
Log into FastMail.FM. Look at the location bar *after* you've logged in, and see what number appears after "/mail" (e.g. "www.fastmail.fm/mail2/...". Now, open the .reg file linked above in notepad, and change all occurences of "/mail" to "/mail2" (or whatever number you noted above). Close and save the file, and double-click it to install. Once FastServices is up and running, we should have a proper way to handle this... |

Hmm... This worked for me too at first... Now, when I click on an e-mail address link, it opens up my Microsoft Outlook compose editor.. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jeremy |

1) Click on the following link: http://jhoward.fastmail.fm/mailto_fm.reg 2) Save it to your hard drive 3) On the file "mailto_fm.reg" , right click "Edit" 4) In "notepad" , edit "mail" to "mail2" 5) When saving the file, add the " .reg " extension to save it as mailto_fm.reg. 6) On the "mailto_fm.reg" file (modified) , right-click and select "merge" This will install the default components. It's important to save the .reg file, modify it in notepad (.txt), and then save it - by adding " .reg " at the end, replace the file, and then install default. Hope this makes sense. Jeremy, why don't you simply modify the mailto_fm.reg file at this location:' http://jhoward.fastmail.fm/mailto_fm.reg changing "mail" to "mail2" ? Do some users have mail and others mail2 ? Perhaps make a "mail" and "mail2" link asking people to look at their URL before downloading. |

I followed the steps as Rakhesh and Jeremy described above, and once again, it worked at first but then stopped working and reverted back to opening the MS Outlook Compose editor....

If procedural matters where written in: 1) 2) 3) list format, it would be so much easier than having to read a novel (or a paragraph or two) to figure out how to implement a basic procedure. |
