Moderators - where are you?
Today (4 July) a couple of spam postings by one user appeared shortly before 7:00 GMT. I reported them, most likely others did too, but these postings are still visible now, at nearly 15:00 GMT.
This isn't very satisfactory, is it? |

Today, July 4th, is a holiday in the US. We don't get paid enough to wake up early...

You get paid
Now wait a minute We know you guys work very hard and do a great job But paying you in used scrap paper seems a little high lol Even mods need a day off or be able to sleep in late |

I am one of the mods on my webhosts forum. Technically, it's a volunteer position, but we get 'paid' in that our accounts are free. That turns out to be about 26 cents a day..

I believe that the moderators here (at EMD) have free accounts as well! It's a really good deal for them IMO

Not a holiday in Canada. And I only visit EMD while at home.

Maybe we could start a thread where all the various mods could tell us some funny stories about their job as moderators.
Without mentioning any names, I'm sure they could tell us some crazy stuff that they have had to do or moderate. Or, is the life of a moderator unbelievably boring? Come on guys, give us some dirt! |

Again, a couple of spam posts today. A lot of spammers, lately. Is there something to do about it?

This site, Stop Forum Spam, and this program, Forum Spam List Checker, have made a good part of my modding (I must say again, to make sure there's clarification, I'm not a mod HERE) a whole lot easier. It's kindof taken me from a reactive position to an active one..
Edit: Forgot to mention this script, ZB Block, which while it's not being used on my webhost's forum, I use it on my personal website. Last edited by somdcomputerguy : 9 Jul 2011 at 01:25 AM. Reason: Edit: Forgot.. |

I wonder how many people in this thread are mods?
ReuvenNY and CyberSmurf are mods here; somdcomputerguy and davy51 are mods of forums unspecified; and I am a mod at RetroSpec (not a very active one, but that forum isn't very active anyway)... Anyone else? |

My webhost's forum (forum.powweb.com, mainly a customer-based forum) isn't very active anymore either. After going thru a somewhat nasty transfer because of a buy-out (similar, but much worse, to the FM/Opera thing), and losing many long-time and quite active forum members, there's only a handful of new posts a day. The spammer to real user ratio exceeds 10-1..
