Labled as a spammer

As of yesterday, my mail to my only customer (HP) is being rejected because I have been labled as a spammer. Is this a runbox.com issue, or is the problem with my mail account?

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

xxx
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<xxx>
host smtp.xxx.com [yyy]: 554 Service unavailable; Sender address [zzz] found on high spam probability list

It could be a domain name block on "Runbox.com". If you change your return address to "Runbox.us" or "Runbox.no" and resend you'll know for sure. If it gets returned with the same problem it's not a domain name block.

I did check and a Runbox IP address was on a black list ( http://bl.csma.biz/cgi-bin/listing.cgi?ip=193.71.199.94). Anyone can manually reset from this list so I did.

Hopefully one of those will resolve your problem.

Regards,
Rich

kagsw-

I would HIGHLY recommend editing your earlier message to obscure the email addresses, for at least 2 reasons:

1.) Your own email address can be harvested by spambots and you'll both RECEIVE spam as well as potentially have your address impersonated to SEND spam.

2.) Your customers (the 3 addresses at HP) would likely want to avoid the same fate, and might be quite annoyed to find their email addresses posted online.

Simply edit the message and replace the text to the left of the @ sign with ******* or ---------. The actual addresses are not necessary for diagnosing and solving the underlying problem. The domains themselves are all that is needed (if that).

Problem is the domain...

The mail gets delivered when I change the reply to xxx@runbox.us. Does this mean the problem is with runbox.com or with xxx@runbox.com?

It means that HP is blocking all mail with "From" addresses that contain the domain "Runbox.com". It's basically a Block list, which is an over simplified and mostly useless method for blocking spam. Most spammers use fake "From" addresses anyways so it's a waste of time to block based on "From" addresses. I'm really supprised that a company like HP is using such an approach.

There is nothing Runbox can do about it because it's something HP is doing. The best you can do is to use one of the other Runbox domains when sending to HP. I would also suggest you have your contacts at HP report the problem to there systems administrator.

Rich
