I worry about email development trend

For free mail, there is gmail exists.
For professional paid mail, there are fastmail and gsuite exist.
Both two are the best excellent above any other.

I am afraid some years later, the other providers will have to shutdown, including but not only yahoo, outlook, gmx, aol.
For example, in Russia, the big players QIP.ru and e1.ru, have moved their email hosting to yandex (Russian's google). They don't want to develop their own email service any more.

How do you think so?

It is true that the big players get more and more dominant in terms of market share, but worldwide there are many alternatives that seem to be able to make enough profit to survive. Outlook.com and Apple Mail will not go away, Verizon/AOL is huge. GMX is big. Look at all the new encrypted providers like ProtonMail, Tutanota, etc. Plus, there are zillions of smaller providers focusing on professionals and niches. Email services are not too expensive to create and maintain, and there are also many small shops with one or two employees providing good services. The truly hard part is to innovate and come up with something new and interesting that will attract customers away from whatever service they are already on. There is a huge lock-in with email in that the average person is not willing to go to the hassle of switching as long as their existing service continues to work reasonably well. Here in the USA I run across tons of people with old AOL and Hotmail accounts they have had since the dial-up phone modem days.

In Russia more and more the big 2 (Yandex and mail.ru) are making up the email field. If you want other providers (AFAIK) you only have rambler.ru or ngs.ru to choose from.

IMHO both yandex and mail.ru are very good capable email providers. Sadly enough i see more and more people (atleast in Europe) do NOT use email and only using messenger types of communication such as Whatsapp,Telegram and the likes.

@dutchie, do you have @ukr.net email? they look quite good, simple and fast, has english interface.

NO. You need an ukrainian cellphone number for registration. Dont have that.

jeffpan! I tried to register for ukr mail, for which a Ukranian phone number is required. So, it wasn't a success for me.

there are many free sms receiver on internet. I just google to find one and register that successfully. It's unlimited space, with pretty clean and fast web interface. I suggest you to get one for test.

Seems a little iffy to use a free SMS service to receive security codes. What happens if you get locked out some day and need to receive a code to get back in? You are dependent on that service being around and working properly.

I suppose it doesn't stop you signing up for a one-off, there may some option within the account to disable that SMS in favor of something else.

You could try it and report back?

Thanks for sharing the SMS receiver info. I was successfully able to create a UKR Mail account.

Indeed it has an IP from Ukraine. Nice and clean simple interface...love it:-)
You can add extra email address for recovery of the account. Cell phone numbers can only be from Ukraine (+380)

Offcourse i will not use this on daily basis,-)
