what is this - another outage?
fastmail.fm - An error has occurred
Unfortunately an unrecoverable error occurred while trying to retrieve the requested page. We have logged this error and will try and fix the problem as soon as possible. If you are really curious to know, the error was : Failed to create screen: Mailbox, Could not authenticate with IMAP server at /home/mod_perl/hm/ME/Mailbox.pm line 277. For the moment please click the 'Back' button on your browser and try again. If that doesn't work, please go to http://www.fastmail.fm and login again. Also check our status blog at http://status.fastmail.fm for server status updates |

I'm actually starting to get used to it :-)
No IMAP, no webmail, nothing on the statuspage, replicated setup? Edit: now it's on the statuspage Last edited by Edward Velo : 27 Oct 2006 at 05:36 PM. |

They gave me a new error message, perhaps so I won't get bored:
www.fastmail.fm - An error has occurred There was a problem accessing the server where your email is stored. The problem was: Marked down by utils/MarkServerDown.pl Please wait a few minutes before trying again. For the moment please click the 'Back' button on your browser and try again. If that doesn't work, please go to http://www.fastmail.fm and login again. Also check our status blog at http://status.fastmail.fm for server status updates |

I wasn't able to access FM on the web from when this outage started until approximately 08:38 GMT - couple of minutes ago.
In the interim I have accessed my fall back account with RunBox, so have not been greatly inconvenienced. The status blog entries have no timestamps, save for initial entry, but it was some time after I first saw the second update before I could access FastMail on the web. |

Since I have been able to get back on to FastMail it has been dismally slow; so much so that getting an address from the address book takes nearly 40 seconds, and uploading attachments is out of the question.
I also note from the Status Blog that another server fell over and was being restarted at 08:56 GMT, reliability really is an issue at present. Back to RunBox for the time being. Edited to add I am store 11m, and once again getting: - www.fastmail.fm - An error has occurred Unfortunately an unrecoverable error occurred while trying to retrieve the requested page. We have logged this error and will try and fix the problem as soon as possible. If you are really curious to know, the error was : Failed to create screen: Mailbox, Could not connect to IMAP server. Re: what is this - another outage?
I think the FM strategy is to make the login page look like what you describe below so you can't tell the difference when it is up or down. ;-)

Terry
All the servers aren't down - I can now get on to FM, and the response time has improved substantially in the last 20 minutes. Frustratingly there's nothing new in the status Blog. Please see my thread regarding the status blog. |
