Webmail very slow

Runbox webmail is currently (for me) very very slow, and is now 'timing out'

Other sites appear normal.

This may be a local problem.................

Runbox is currently under a DDoS attack. We are working with our ISP to resolve the problem and expect our services to respond normally again shortly.

good luck

I hope you get it fixed soon

I wonder why Runbox?

Normally I think of ddos as "against" something... Runbox seems pretty harmless.

Just a few posibilitites:
* A kid is playing with his computer to test his new script.
* A paid attacker sponsored by a competitor.
* A 3-letter agency of a democratic government is testing its ability to do harm.

We can't provide any details, but we do from time to time see attempts at forcing Runbox to disclose information, shut down accounts, or perform some other action.

This will of course never work.

Runbox has a strong team of system administrators with extensive experience in systems and network security, and we work closely with our ISP to prevent and resolve attempts at disrupting our services.

Geir: I donīt know why you "canīt provide details", your clients must know what is going on inside RB and itīs something that Norway laws donīt forbit (if I understand them well).
But anyway, reading your post I understand that many government authorities/agencies want to know more about your clients and their emails, and itīs something normal (not something strange) in this online world that we are living, they want to know everything about us (bad thing), but itīs important that you share it with us and donīt hide it.

Geir saying "Can't provide any details" doesn't mean we are prevented from doing so.

We can't/won't because revealing details could compromise the privacy of customers. Nothing more.

I think we are not talking about information of customers but information of where the requests are coming from and some more information about it. Anyway, if some customer is being investigated or if there is some request about him/her then you can communicate with him/her alone, without compromising his/her privacy.

Please don't read more in to this than there is.

It is quite routine that services are attacked on the Internet for a whole variety of reasons that have nothing to do with "official" bodies.

It was just an example of things that happen. We sometimes get people pretending to be other people (e.g. friends, relatives, business partners or even the account holder) in order to get us to reveal account information or username and passwords. If they don't get their way some make threats against us saying they will disrupt our services. In some cases that then happens, and in others we hear nothing more.

It doesn't happen very often, but when it does we just deal with it.

We don't divulge information about accounts unless we are certain that it is the account holder asking. That's why we ask for things like alternative email addresses or that you register a special piece of information with us that only you would know.

If we do receive any requests from authorities, you can find out about it here:
