FastMail IMAP and Outlook 2002 or other IMAP clients
I'm trying to get used to IMAP service with my outlook, but there are lot features that outlook 2002 are missing...
I can't just can't seem to setup the outlook I want with IMAP. Do you guys have any websites with outlook tips with IMAP? |

My tip is to switch to Outlook Express. If that's not an option, a search of support.microsoft.com knowledge based for Outlook IMAP will dig up a few useful articles--the trick is the set up a few rules for most stuff.
I'm sure there are other users here you can provide some more specific suggestions. We'll add any juicy ideas to the FAQ, of course. |

I don't know about azukre, but does anybody know how to automatically download the whole message (on Outlook 2002) instead of just the headers? It's a pain to have to click on every single message...

Spiderman,
Go to: Tools>Options>Send/Receive>Edit Now under ALL Accounts u will c ur accounts on the left. Click on the inbox and select "Download Complete Item including attachments" OR U could create a Rule which would automatically send all ur mail to the INBOX ie:the local one not the one that fastmail uses. In that case all the mail in fastmail is automatically deleted and sent to ur INBOX which u can view offline. hope this helps.. rgds, Agent007 |

Excellent! I don't want the Inbox thing, but I set all my folders to synchronise all items. Way cool! Now Outlook is stuck downloading all my attachments
Thanks a lot! SM |

Is it possible to do the same thing with outlook express... I mean download all the messages at once and that too into the OE inbox rather than the FM inbox...
I rarely keep messages on the web, prefer to download it to the hard drive,so is there anyway to configure the sever settings in such a way that IMAP acts as an enhanced pop3 ?? Jinu Johnson |

In Outlook Express the default setup does exactly this. It downloads all messages in the inbox each time it polls for email. You can force it by clicking Tools->Send and Receive->FastMail.FM.
They still appear in your FastMail.FM inbox in Outlook Express, but behind the scenes OE has cached a copy locally and will use that rather than getting it from the server. This is called "disconnected mode operation" and lets you use IMAP in much the same way as POP. |

No, U cannot create rules in Outlook Express that send ur mail to the local INBOX. OE is totally scaled down anyway.

Actually I'm pretty much sure that there is some way of getting your FM mails into your local inbox, also that there is some way to avoid dowloading all the headers as well.....I have seen someone dowload his ISP mails through IMAP..... but I have been trying to do the same for FM and it doesnt work.....hope someone can help me do this.....

Yeah, the suggestions above should work!
I've used the copy/move to local Inbox rule successfully in the past. Re. Quote:
2) Is there a way to set this on a per-folder basis? 3) Thanks! I'll be moving to OL XP (same as OL 2002, right?) partly for this, soon. I've been using Tools>Download > Selected Items (which is context sensitive in OL 2000) I'd love to , e.g. have Inbox.Non-BCC d/l automatically, but not Inbox.Spam or Inbox.MailingLists |

Yes u can create new local folders and the rules will automatically direct ur mail to them depending on the sender and so on. Outlook 2002 is the same as Outlook XP.
I feel that OutlookXP is the best for handling IMAP accounts. rgds, Agent007 |

Outlook users should consider Bynari's InsightConnector
Hello,
Outlook users should consider Bynari's 'InsightConnector for Outlook' http://www.bynari.net/bynari/insightcon.html It works like a Microsoft Outlook Plug-In and allows you to make your remote IMAP mailbox (in this case FastMail) visible to your Outlook client as if it was a local .PST file. This way Outlook deals with your remote mailbox natively. This InsightConnector deals with all the details of keeping this local PST file synch'd with the remote IMAP mailbox. The software works although it still has a few rough edges (TIP: keep the sync manager window open at all times so that you can see first hand what is going on). They have a 14-days eval on their web site. More info can be found at this article by Outlook Guru Sue Mosher: http://www.exchangeadmin.com/Article...rticleID=24138 hope this helps Marino |
