Show your desktop!
To start with, here's mine:

My desktop is the result of the shared desktop settings of my family and my own personal things. The background may vary according to the season....

Worth the wait
I didn't have a very interesting desktop when robert@fm started this thread but then I found the perfect background. You can see it at person2person.faithweb.com/desktop.html.
BTW, yes, that's a small sedan sitting nose-down between two parking garages. Remarkably, the driver, a university student, got out unharmed and proceeded to her next class, LOL. You can find out more at http://economics.wustl.edu/computing/parking/. Best wishes, David P. |

Funny how I keep a screen shot around just for these occasions. It's actually due for an update since that one was taken under Mac OS X 10.1...

Wow, that's a huge file! Fortunately on DSL it doesn't take too long to load. I can't believe all the icons on your desktop! |

I have the really bad habit of tossing everything on my desktop, and then clearing it out every once in a while. As you can probably see, there are a lot of installation files there which I use once to install something, and then never again... movies, soundbytes, etc. I hardly ever use any of the icons there, as I prefer running them from my start tray. Much more convenient, just typing in the name of the shortcut and pressing enter, with autocompletion.
I see you run a 2-tier starttray as well... may I ask what you do with the space next to the quicklaunch icons? The most useful thing I could fit there was the 'Address' toolbar, and it's proven to be very handy. If I type in a URL it opens up my Default Browser with that URL, if I type in a location on my harddisk it opens an Explorer, and if I type in a progam that is on my desktop it opens that as well. Very versatile thing... hard to believe it's part of Windows and no 3rd party tool. By the way: I already reduced the size with 50%... I run Dual Monitors, and one half is normally empty except for applications I choose to move there, so I cut it off the screenshot. --K |

my desktop is way to cluttered. If I can be bothered to sort it out I may post. 'If' being the operative word there

Can't be worse than Kander's, though.
Or can it? Although I must admit that I, too, put all sorts of things on the desktop. Once a week, though, that stuff is all put in a desktop folder called "Junk". |
